Thirteen years anniversary of the Syrian revolution

The Syrian revolution began as spontaneous peaceful popular protests in marginalized Syrian areas in 2011, demanding freedom, dignity, and emancipation, and putting an end to repression, corruption, and dictatorship. However, it quickly spread to most regions of Syria. The regime of President Bashar al-Assad suppressed the peaceful demonstrations with force, resulting in hundreds of thousands of casualties, and millions were displaced internally and sought refuge around the world. Syria turned into an international crisis and a battleground for conflict among regional and international powers
